Intel introduced the 13th gen HX-series laptop CPUs at CES 2023 in addition to its Raptor Lake desktop CPUs in 2022. Designed for gamers and creators, the new HX Series CPUs offer up to 24 cores, 8 performance cores and 16 efficiency cores, as well as a 5.6 GHz maximum frequency on the P-cores. According to Intel, the Core i9-13980HX is the fastest mobile processor in the world.
In single-thread performance, the i9-13980HX improves by 11%, while in multi-thread, it improves by 49%. There are 32MB of L3 cache, 16 lanes of PCIe 5.0, up to DDR5 5600 memory, and up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports. The new HX CPUs come with 55W base power and 157W turbo power. There are 10 total cores on the i5-13450HX CPU, including 6 performance and 4 efficiency ones.
Also, Intel announced a new H-series lineup of processors for “Enthusiast Laptops” with a 45W base power output and up to 14 cores – 6 performance and 8 efficiencies.
Furthermore, Intel has announced new processors for thin and light laptops in its P and U series. With 28W power envelopes and up to 24MB L3 cache, the P-series comes in 12 and 14-core configurations.
There are up to 10 cores and a 12 MB L3 cache in the U-series CPUs, as well as 15W of base power.
In the coming months, Lenovo, Asus, Dell, HP, Acer, MSI, Razer, Samsung and other laptop OEMs will release new laptops with Intel’s 13th gen CPUs.
