In a new report from The Elec, Apple plans to expand Dynamic Island pill-shaped cutouts to iPhone 15 models, including non-Pro iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models. Apple has already ordered component suppliers such as Samsung Display, which in turn ordered equipment valued at KRW 24.1 billion ($19.3 million) from fellow South Korean company Philoptics. It appears that the order is for etching equipment for the production of Dynamic Island displays.
In the future, Samsung Display will contract more companies to handle Apple’s increased demand for Dynamic Island displays. According to The Elec, Apple may finally bring an Under Display (UD) Face ID solution to the iPhone 16 Pro series in 2017. Details regarding the full-screen solution were not provided.
Samsung Display is rumored to be partnering with OTI Lumionics, which is working on UD cameras that will utilize organic cathode patterning for optimal clarity above the camera and sensors. According to these rumors, the iPhone 15 Pro series might feature UD Face ID, but it seems unlikely.
According to recent rumors, Apple has already begun producing iPhone 15 in China, so we’ll likely learn more about them soon.
