Some of OnePlus’ 2023 phones will now receive four major OS updates and five years of security patches. During a roundtable event in London, the brand confirmed its new commitment but did not reveal which phones will benefit from the new policy.
The new extended software support is likely to benefit future OnePlus flagship phones, starting with the upcoming OnePlus 11. According to Gary Chen, the OnePlus and Oppo Operating System Product head, security updates will be released bimonthly.
Since the OnePlus 8, devices in the number series have received three OS updates and four years of security patches. OnePlus N-series phones get a single OS update and three years of security updates, while OnePlus 7 and Nord series phones get two OS updates and three years of security updates. For its new flagships, Samsung is the only Android maker to guarantee up to four Android version updates.
