Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, the company’s latest cutting-edge Applications Processor (AP). It will be used by manufacturers including ASUS ROG, HONOR, iQOO, Motorola, nubia, OnePlus, Oppo, RedMagic, Redmi, Sharp, Sony, Vivo, Xiaomi, XINGJI/MEIZU, and ZTE. The new chipset will be available to consumers by the end of the year.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC:
Qualcomm claims the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip will deliver up to 4.35x faster AI performance than its predecessor. It is also the first Qualcomm chip to support an AI-powered always-sensing camera. Using an AI neural network, the chip “understands faces, facial features, hair, clothes, skies, and more, and optimizes every detail individually to provide professional image quality.”
It is built on 64-bit architecture and has a single Prime core running at 3.2GHz (Cortex-X3). The chip contains four Performance cores running at 2.8GHz, and three Efficiency cores running at 2.0GHz.
It includes the latest version of the Adreno GPU for 25% faster performance. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will have a Kryo CPU that Qualcomm claims will improve power efficiency by up to 40%.
Up to 200MP photos and 8K HDR video will be supported by the new SoC. With head tracking and lossless music streaming, audio also gets improved. Users feel as though the sound is coming from a specific location around them with this surround-sound immersion.
Designed to protect users’ data and privacy, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform offers the latest in isolation, cryptography, key management, attestation, and more. Data on devices powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is protected by this premium level of protection.
According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has “unparalleled connectivity with 5G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.” Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X70 5G Modem-RF System continues that tradition. The Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 connectivity system offers Wi-Fi 7 and dual Bluetooth.
Qualcomm doesn’t forget your phone’s battery, so the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will come with Qualcomm Quick Charge 5. With Snapdragon Elite Gaming, mobile games have lifelike light, reflections, and illumination thanks to advanced accelerated ray tracing.
