On the auspicious occasion of Dussehra, Reliance Jio launched 5G services in four cities – Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Varanasi.
In these metros, Jio’s True 5G services are getting ready, and the company has launched a Jio Welcome Offer that will let customers try True 5G services and provide feedback.
At the AGM in August, the company announced that it would launch 5G services by Diwali in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata using standalone architecture (SA).
Does this mean that Jio users will be able to use 5G? The 5G network will not be available to existing Jio customers until their devices are compatible with it. Users will be invited to participate in the trials instead. Up to 1Gbps speeds will be available to these customers with unlimited 5G data.
The Beta trial service for other cities will be announced progressively as cities become ready, according to the company.
What is the offer all about?
Jio users will be invited to participate in 5G trials in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Varanasi. With a compatible device and an invitation, customers will be able to get unlimited 5G data.
During the beta trial, users would be able to access the network until a city’s coverage is substantially complete, Reliance said on Tuesday. The beta testers may be able to use 5G services for free until Reliance fully rolls out the service.
Jio True 5G service will be automatically upgraded for those invited to the Jio Welcome Offer. There will be no need to upgrade customers’ existing SIM cards or devices. Jio customers with 5G handsets are, of course, the chosen ones.
