Have you noticed how quickly the year has passed? After the Pixel 6 was announced in mid-October 2021, its successor is just around the corner – and rumors suggest that it will look nearly the same as its predecessor.
A new Tensor G2 chipset will be used in the Pixel 7, which will bring some important improvements to the GPU, NPU, modem, and other hardware. Google’s software will be optimized with hardware acceleration, which is more important for Pixel users.
Specs:
On speculative spec sheets, leakster Yogesh Brar is playing “spot the difference” with the rest of the phone. The phone comes with a 6.3″ OLED display with FHD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 90Hz. The Pixel 6 displays are a tenth of an inch smaller, but other than that, they are similar. It will not look impressive to have a 90Hz display on a near-flagship device in 2023.
In the camera department, there are both 50MP and 12MP sensors, both using the same GN1 and IMX381 sensors. There will be an upgrade to the selfie camera to 11MP (up from 8MP), and the new Samsung 3J1 sensor will have PDAF. And as you can see from the official images, the new model still uses the “visor” design, it’s just that the color palette is different this year.
Considering the Pixel 6’s battery capacity is 4,614mAh, we expect the Pixel 7 battery to have a capacity of at least 4,700mAh. Also, charging support is listed as 30W, but an asterisk should be beside it. It turns out that the two 6 and 6 Pro phones charge at 21-23W, not 30W, as some people had originally thought.
Besides the G2 chipset, the new model is also expected to come with the Titan security chip, possibly a new version. It’s unclear why that wasn’t built into the G2.
According to reports, the phone will have 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of storage. Current Pixels will be updated quickly to Android 13 when it launches, of course.
It is probable that the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will go on pre-order the same day. There is a rumor that the Pixel 7 will cost $600 and the Pixel 7 Pro will cost $900. First time in a few years, the flagship models will be available in India, though the price has not yet been announced. On the 6th, we can also expect to see the Pixel Watch and a Pixel tablet.
