The Sony Xperia 1 IV was unveiled earlier this year in May. The Xperia 5 IV was not launched alongside the latest Xperia 1 IV, as is usual for Sony. It led many to believe Sony had dropped the compact flagship model like Apple.
On September 1, Sony will host a new launch event where we’re expected to see the Xperia 5 IV unveiled. Sony Xperia’s official YouTube channel will live-stream the event from 4 PM Japan time/9 AM CEST.
There are currently no details about the Xperia 5 IV. Our suspicion is that it will feature a flagship Qualcomm chipset, a 120Hz high refresh rate FHD+ OLED display, and the same camera hardware as the Xperia 1 IV.
The “new Xperia” phone was used by Cat Burns to shoot and record her latest music video, although she didn’t explicitly mention it was the Xperia 5 IV. According to rumours and a more recent FCC certification, the Xperia 5 IV will come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and three 12MP cameras like the outgoing Xperia 5 III. In addition to the OLED screen, wireless charging is expected to be included in the device.
