The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 CPU will feature single Cortex-X3 cores, 2x Cortex-A720, 2x Cortex-A710 & 3x Cortex-A510 cores. This might be the first time ever on a smartphone chip to feature such a configuration. The tipster also revealed the codenames which are 1x Makalu-Elp, 2x Makalu, 2x Matterhorn, and 3x Klein-R1.
In case you’ve followed ARM’s announcement, you’ll recognize Makalu and Matterhorn. Those were announced as the successors to the Cortex-X1/A78. Makalu is clearly the next generation after Matterhorn on the chart, which represents X2/A710.
