Xiaomi officially announced its next iteration of custom skin with MIUI 13. Along with Xiaomi 12 series launch, the company also unveiled its new MIUI 13. The new MIUI 13 will bring more security features this time. So let’s dig in to know what are the new features and additions in the MIUI 13.

With the new MIUI 13, XiaoAI enables multiple Xiaomi devices to operate as one, including phones, tablets, TVs, smart wearables, smart home systems, and the company’s own XiaoAI voice assistant.

Since privacy is a critical concern for smartphone users, Xiaomi implemented a three-step verification process, which could work in some regions. Face recognition is the first step, followed by a watermark reading of the user’s ID, and then there is an electronic fraud protection layer.

A facial recognition system recognizes the upper body. It records the user’s face, but everything from the waist up is recorded. So people with different body types will not be allowed into the app, even if their faces are similar.

The “electronic fraud protection” keeps a record of websites and devices that may contain malware. There is also a full phonebook of numbers that will be flagged as nefarious. The user will be informed before accepting a call.

Xiaomi also introduced a new font for MIUI 13 called means. The font is available free of charge for download. Sans-serif fonts simplify letters, signs, numbers. The ornaments were removed, but Xiaomi also made the font more symmetrical, both in spacing and appearance.

In addition to the font, the colors have changed as well. MIUI 13 will introduce new wallpaper options, featuring flowers blooming from one side of the screen when the phone is turned on. Several widgets have also been redesigned to align better in a grid.

MIUI 13 Pad:

The availability of MIUI 13 on other devices is another significant change. Despite having a limited number of models, Xiaomi developed MIUI 13 Pad, which is designed for tablets. While there’s no word on whether the Mi Mix Fold will get it, we think it should given the emphasis on multitasking here.

Over 3000 apps were developed already that support the feature, according to the company. The Pad will support gestures such as dragging, pinch-to-resize, drag-and-drop, or opening an app directly into a small window.

MIUI 13 will be available very soon, and that is the big question. Starting in January 2022, Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi Mi 11 series will support it. It’s true – MIUI 13 is also designed to work with Redmi and Poco, which are independent brands.
