Samsung has likely extended the support window for the biggest number of android phones over the past year or so, followed by more and more Android manufacturers.
It was notable that Xiaomi had been absent from this new game until now. The company just announced that its 11T and 11T Pro smartphones will receive three major Android system updates, as well as four years of security updates from their release, which would be at an online event on September 15th.
In the future, we hope that Xiaomi will extend this kind of courtesy to many more devices. According to the press release, “other devices will not be available at this time”, so we’ll have to see how things progress. Xiaomi says it will “evaluate the feasibility” of adding extended Android system and security upgrade services to more Xiaomi phones, so fingers crossed.
The life cycle of a smartphone is gradually lengthening due to the continuous improvement in smartphone hardware, meaning that users don’t need to replace their smartphones as frequently. As a result, more and more users prioritize receiving the latest operating system updates, along with the latest features on their smartphones.
