The iPhone 13 is a modest improvement over the iPhone 12. This indicates Apple is hard at work on the iPhone 14 for 2022, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his Sunday Power On newsletter.
The iPhone 13 has a slightly quicker processor, bigger sensors, a Cinematic video mode, and filtering system, smoother 120Hz displays (Pros only), longer battery life, and a smaller notch than the iPhone 12. Owners of previous iPhones will likely upgrade the most, making the iPhone 13 one of the most popular smartphones of 2021.
Gurman expects “major” and “dramatic” improvements next year. He doesn’t go into depth, but previous disclosures have given us a hint. Apple reportedly won’t produce a 5.4-inch mini next year. Instead of focusing on two 6.1-inch and two 6.7-inch models. The entry-level model may keep a 60Hz screen.
Apple allegedly plans to ditch the notch in favor of a hole punch cutout. Further, they will relocate Face ID sensors below the screen. This isn’t anticipated. The Pro versions may have titanium frames instead of stainless steel. The iPhone 14 Pro Max may have circular side buttons.
The camera hump may be lowered, and the higher-end versions may include a 48MP camera. The iPhone 14 will reportedly include a Lightning connector, and future generations will presumably be portless and feature wireless charging instead of USB-C. The 2022 models will reportedly use 4nm chips.
Apple is also working on a foldable smartphone, according to Gurman. Apparently, it will be launched in 2024.
