Microsoft Surface Duo 2 5G

Microsoft unveiled the Surface Duo 2 5G, their second dual-screen smartphone, small tablet, or whatever you want to call it, powered by Android and featuring two screens. The new gadget is much more contemporary.

The basic idea is the same: Microsoft joins two screens in the center with a hinge that can swivel 360°, producing a tablet/phone hybrid that should allow for greater productivity and multitasking.

More display space, but no fold-out

The two screens are now 5.8 inches each, for a total diagonal of 8.3 inches. Microsoft calls it Dual PixelSense Fusion Displays. They are each 1344 x 1892 pixels, thus the total resolution is 2688 x 1892 pixels. However, it has dropped significantly from its predecessor.

The two panels not only cover the DCI-P3 and SRGB color spaces but also feature a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus cover, which protects them from scratching. Platforms are also considerably more contemporary.

It’s finally time for the top hardware!

Microsoft Surface Duo 2 5G

The Surface Duo 2 has the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor as many current high-end smartphones, with eight cores running at up to 2.84 GHz. The chip always contains 8 GB current LPDDR5 memory and 128, 256, or even 512 GB internal UFS memory. No MicroSD card slot, but NanoSIM and eSIM support.

Finally a great camera?

Microsoft does nothing about the cameras and drills out the camera module from the rear of the Surface Duo 2 5G. If the original Surface Duo produced poor photos and videos, the latest generation should offer far better results. The camera module protrudes enough from the surface that the Duo 2 can no longer be folded flat.

Better images now come from three primary cameras. The 12-megapixel primary sensor features dual-pixel phase detection autofocus and a hardware image stabilizer. The chip is likely Sony.

It’s a big modernization for

It features 12 megapixels, an f/2.4 aperture, dual-pixel PDAF, and a hardware image stabilizer. There’s also a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture. The field of vision is 110° and there is no hardware picture stabilization. Microsoft has also upgraded the front camera to a 12-megapixel sensor with an f/2.0 aperture.

Although the Surface Duo 2’s cameras do not support 8K recording, 4K movies at 60 frames per second should be feasible. The new cameras have a portrait mode with adjustable depth of focus, HDR multi-frame recordings, a low-light and night mode, up to 10x digital zoom, and more.

Bigger battery, no power supply?

Microsoft has also improved the Surface Duo 2’s battery. The two power storage units, each on one side of the casing, should now have a capacity of 4449mAh, allowing the Surface Duo 2 to operate for a day. Microsoft provides a 23-watt power supply for the USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C connector to allow rapid charging. Microsoft no longer sells its smartphones with a built-in power supply unit since they must be bought separately.

The Surface Duo 2 still utilizes WiFi 6, NFC, and Bluetooth 5.1, but now it also supports 5G cellular networks. The Redmond-based firm has equipped its second Android smartphone with two stereo speakers and AI-powered noise reduction for the best possible phone and video call quality. The power button fingerprint reader is back.

Quick access to device health and alerts

The Surface Duo 2 Glance Bar is an intriguing new feature. So that the user may comprehend what is occurring on the device even when it is closed.

The Surface Duo 2 runs Android 11, which may be “optimized” with the Microsoft Launcher and other tweaks to suit your needs. Naturally, Microsoft-owned applications like Teams, Xbox Game Pass, LinkedIn, Office apps, and your own universal search are included.

Microsoft now offers the Surface Duo 2 in black as well as white or light grey. Both versions will soon be available on AT&T in the US, as well as in other free trade nations. Microsoft recommends a basic model pricing of $1499 (Rs.1,10,500/-) for the USA.

The Surface Duo 2 pre-booking will cost 1599 euros on October 21. A commercial version will cost 1649 euros. The Surface Duo 2 is available for pre-order now.
