In recent years, Huawei has developed its most technologically advanced flagship phone with the Mate series. Huawei’s timeline this year is pushed back because of U.S. restrictions to obtain cutting-edge chips.
According to a new report, the iPhone won’t be the only device to support satellite connectivity when cell service is not available. The Weibo tipster (via Huawei Central) claims that the Mate 50 line might come with Beidou satellite support. Using this service, users will be able to communicate even in the absence of cellular service.
So, the Mate 50 and Mate 50 Pro will launch sometime in 2022. As we have seen in the Huawei P40 series, which featured high precision positioning driven by Beidou’s satellite system, it is very well likely that the Mate 50 line will use satellites for sending and receiving text messages. The fact that Huawei is continuing to innovate and is not giving up its floundering smartphone business despite all the restrictions the U.S. has imposed on the company is yet another indication that Huawei is not going away.
Our earlier report said that the P50 will launch in March, powered by a Snapdragon 888 chipset that will support 4G, but not 5G. So Samsung Foundry can ship it to Huawei since the component isn’t cutting-edge. Users with the Huawei ID will be able to utilize seamless connections between Huawei devices running HarmonyOS 2.1.
