.Apple’s iPhone 12 supercycle launch last year was a huge success. Apple expects to make another “big splash” with the 2021 iPhones. The new iPhones will have larger batteries, smaller notches and better performance. They may also feature an always-on mode, more advanced displays, and possibly a faster processor.

Always On Display:

Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman describes what customers can expect this year from the iPhone in his latest Power On newsletter. Gurman says that according to previously leaked battery capacities the new iPhones may feature larger batteries. This could be used to power displays at a 120Hz refresh rate or an Apple Watch-inspired Always-On mode.

Recent Apple Watch models allow the display to remain on at a lower level of brightness and a variable refresh rate. This allows watch wearers to see their faces at all times. Gurman claims that Apple could bring similar functionality for the 2021 iPhone. This would allow customers to view information such as time, date, and notifications at any time on their display.

ProMotion Display:

This is possible due to the LTPO display which can power efficiently maintain the display at a lower level of brightness at all times without a significant impact upon battery life.

OLED LTPO displays that are expected to be part of the iPhone 13 models will also allow for a 120Hz refresh speed. Apple’s 120Hz ProMotion technology has long been rumoured for its iPhone. However, despite widespread rumours to the contrary, Apple seems to have decided to include this feature in the iPhone 13.

The dummy iPhone 13 lineup models reveal few design changes, including improved performance, better displays and enhanced camera capabilities. Apple’s last year introduction of a flat-edged iPhone design was a success, and the iPhone 13 will follow that pattern. To accommodate larger batteries and more advanced displays, the new iPhones may be thicker and lighter.
