Huawei recently announced the flagship chipset with Kirin 990 5G that was built on the same 7nm EUV process which is also powering the Mate 30 series. Now Samsung has also unveiled the successor to Exynos 9820 with Exynos 990 which is built on 7nm EUV process.
The new Exynos 990 is an octa-core process with 2+2+4 tri-cluster CPU configuration. The first two cores are of custom 5th Gen CPU cores coupled with two cores of Cortex A76 along with four cores of Cortex A55. Sadly, Samsung has not revealed the clock speed of the cores at the moment but has confirmed that the Exynos 990 will boost the performance by 20%.
The Exynos 990 comes with latest Mali-G77 MP11 GPU which provides 20% improvement in terms of performance or power efficiency. The Exynos 990 becomes the first Samsung chipset to feature Dual Core NPU Engine and also comes with improved DSP which helps to increases the camera performance. The new Exynos 990 can support six cameras upto 108MP along with 8K/UHD video recording at 30fps/120fps.
The Exynos 990 can support 4K resolution display with 120Hz refresh rates along with 10-bit HDR display support. The Exynos 990 also features built-in 5G modem with Exynos Modem 5123 which offers 7.53 Gbps of download speed in mmWave and 1.5 Gbps under the sub-6Hz setting. The new 5G modem supports E-UTRA-NR Dual Connectivity which combines both LTE and 5G to provide faster download speed. The new Exynos 990 SoC will be powering the upcoming Galaxy S11 series.
