Earlier we had few leaks claiming that Qualcomm is planning to launch a dedicated chipset especially for the Windows PC’s and laptops later next year. We also got to know that Qualcomm has rebranded its SoC name to Snapdragon 8180 SoC.
As per the source, the new Snapdragon 8180 SoC will again be an Octa-core processor built on the 7nm process. The new Snapdragon 8180 SoC will have clock speed up to 3.0 GHz and is currently testing the same. It will feature four Gold cores at 3.0 GHz and remaining four silver cores at 1.8 GHz speed.
As the Snapdragon 8180 SoC is still under testing phase the end product might ship with higher clock speeds on the Gold core. The new Snapdragon 8180 SoC will also ship with dedicated NPU with NPU-130 whose functions are not yet known. As per the source, the Snapdragon 8180 SoC aka SCX8180 to ship with latest Adreno 680 GPU. Do note that the new Adreno 680 GPU is more powerful than the mobile chipset Snapdragon 8150 SoC.
Apart from that, the Snapdragon 8180 SoC will also come with support for new LPDDR4X RAM with 2133 MHz. The source also reveals that the new Snapdragon 8180 SoC will also come in the larger format of the chip with a new design which is known as FCBGA1448B by Qualcomm. We can expect the first device to ship with Snapdragon 8180 will be from ASUS with new ASUS Primus.
