Earlier we had few patent infringement case been filed by Qualcomm and Apple in China which has not ended still. Now Qualcomm has decided to stop supplying chips to Apple for the upcoming iPhone’s.
George Davis, Qualcomm’s Financial Chief said: “We believe Apple intends to solely use our competitor’s modems rather than our modems in its next iPhone release ” at the earnings call.
But this is not forever as per Cristiano Amon, head of Qualcomm’s chip division tells that they are looking forward to being a supplier for Apple somewhere in the future. Apple has already used both Qualcomm and Intel chipset for some variant of iPhones in the past and we also have various speed test conducted which shows that Intel modem is slower than the Qualcomm.
Qualcomm didn’t specify the competitor name but we can confirm it to be none other than Intel. Anyway, Qualcomm will no longer supply the chips to Apple for the 2018 iPhones.
