Xiaomi finally unveils the much-awaited flagship for 2018 with Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition and Xiaomi Mi 8 SE in China. The Xiaomi Mi 8 will be available in Black, Blue, Gold and White colors whereas the Mi 8 Explorer Edition will come in the transparent back and the Mi 8 SE will come in Black, Blue, Red and Gold colors. The Mi 8 with 6GB+64GB cost 2699 Yuan (Rs.28,500/-), 6GB+128GB at 2999 Yuan (Rs.31,600/-) and 3299 Yuan (Rs.35,000/-).
The Mi 8 Explorer Edition with 8GB+256GB storage is priced at 3699 Yuan (Rs.39,000/-) whereas the Mi 8 SE with 4GB+64GB is priced at 1799 Yuan (Rs.19,000/-) and 6GB+64GB is priced at 1999 Yuan (Rs.21,000/-) and will go on sale from June 8 in China. Both Mi 8 & Mi 8 Explorer Edition will go on sale from June 5 in China.
The Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition & Mi 8 SE looks similar in terms of design and overall looks. It is heavily inspired by the Apple iPhone X and all the three devices carry a notch above the display. The Mi 8 comes with Glass back unique water drop arc design, four curved glass body with 7 series aluminum frame whereas the Mi 8 Explorer Edition comes with transparent Glass back which looks similar to HTC Transcluent design on the HTC U11 Plus. The Mi 8 SE has metal chassis along with glass back.
The Mi 8, Mi 8 SE and Mi 8 Explorer Edition weighs around 175 grams, 164 grams, and 177 grams respectively. The Mi 8 & Mi 8 Explorer Edition measures 7.6 mm thick whereas Mi 8 SE at 7.5 mm thick.
Xiaomi Mi 8 & Mi 8 Explorer Edition:
The new Xiaomi Mi 8 & Mi 8 Explorer Edition sports 6.21 inches FHD+ AMOLED display with a resolution of 2248*1080p having an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. Both the devices are powered by SD845 SoC clocked at 2.8 GHz coupled with 6GB RAM and 64GB/128GB internal storage on Mi 8 and 8GB RAM with 256GB internal storage on Mi 8 Explorer Edition.
The Mi 8 & Mi 8 Explorer Edition features 12MP Dual camera on the back. The Primary 12MP sensor comes with 26mm wide angle lens, aperture of f/1.8 using 1/2.6″ Sony IMX363 sensor, 1.4µm pixel size, and Secondary 12MP Samsung S5K3M3 sensor, f/2.4 aperture, 1.0µm pixel size, 2X zoom, Dual Tone Dual LED flash, 4-axis OIS, and 4K recording.
There is 20MP IR sensor on the front in Mi 8 for Face Unlock which uses an infrared sensor and lens that works even in dark by scanning 4096 facial points and 20MP 3D Facial Recognition on Mi 8 Explorer Edition for face unlock 3D face recognition that uses advanced structured lighting technology to capture 33,000 facial points along with 3D stickers similar to Apple Animoji. The selfie camera can take Real-time AI portraits. The rear camera on both the devices scored 105 in DxO Mark for photo and the overall DxO Mark score is 99.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition comes with a Synaptics FS9500 Clear ID optical in-display fingerprint scanner which we saw on the Vivo X21 UD. The connectivity options include Dual SIM 4G LTE with Dual VoLTE support, Dual Band Wifi with 2×2 MU-MIMO, Dual Frequency GPS (L1+L5), Bluetooth 5.0, GLONASS, NFC, USB Type-C, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner on Mi 8.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 is fueled by 3400 mAh battery whereas Mi 8 Explorer Edition is fueled by 3000 mAh battery and both the devices come with QC 4.0+ fast charging support. Xiaomi Mi 8 & Mi 8 Explorer Edition runs on Android 8.1 with MIUI 9 which will be updated to MIUI 10 later.
Xiaomi Mi 8 SE:
The next smartphone is the latest mid-range which might have replaced the Note-series with Mi 8 SE or (Special Edition). The Mi 8 SE sports 5.88 FHD+ AMOLED display with a resolution of 2248*1080p having an aspect ratio of 18.7:9 with 2.5D curved glass on top.
The Mi 8 SE becomes the first smartphone to debut the latest SD710 SoC coupled with 4GB/6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The Mi 8 SE features a Dual camera on the back with a primary 12MP sensor 1.4μm pixel size, Dual PD, f/1.9 aperture and 5MP secondary depth sensor with an aperture of f/2.0 and 1.12um pixel size with Dual LED flash.
On the front we have the 20MP selfie camera comes with Face unlock feature along with AI portraits and AI beautification. It comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. The connectivity option includes Dual SIM 4G LTE with Dual VoLTE support, Dual Band Wifi with 2×2 MU-MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, GLONASS, and USB Type-C.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 SE is fueled by 3120 mAh battery with QC 3.0 and runs on Android 8.1 with MIUI 9 on top.
