Earlier we had rumors about Xiaomi busy working on a successor to Surge S1 with Surge S2 which will be a mid-range chipset from Xiaomi.The Surge S1 didn’t do well overall and had faced some issues in the real world usage but Xiaomi is all preparing for the successor even after failing in the first attempt.
As per source, Xiaomi is sending huge orders to some of the popular Taiwanese IT companies like Foxconn, TSMC, Invatec and Largan Precision.As per the industry insider, the Xiaomi upcoming Surge S2 will be built on 16nm process and is manufactured by none other than TSMC.
The upcoming Surge S2 SoC will be Octa-core chip with four Cortex A73 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and remaining four Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz.It is coupled with Mali G71MP8 GPU and will have support for UFS 2.1 storage with LPDDR4 RAM.The new Surge S2 will perform similarly to Huawei Kirin 960 SoC and will not have CDMA support.
