As per source, the Xiaomi had recently ordered 18.5:9 aspect ratio display from a supplier named Tianma, but those ordered displays will not be used for Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 instead will be used to launch future Redmi series devices as per Industry partner and Investor Pan Jiutang.Xiaomi is using JDI made displays for Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 and not the Tianma made display so we can expect those display might be featured in upcoming Redmi devices.Jiutang also mentioned that the Tianma made display might even be used for the upcoming Mi flagship devices too.Tianma is small-scale industry and it would not able to mass produce 18.5:9 displays as per company requirement for all other Xiaomi devices.
With this new rumour, we can expect the recently leaked Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Plus to come with a bezel-less display having an aspect ratio of 18.5:9.As we cannot expect the same display to be featured in budget segment devices with upcoming Redmi 5.As of now none of the above-mentioned devices lives images has been leaked so it is too early to comment on the about the new bezel-less display.
The new Bezel-less display trend was started by Xiaomi with Mi Mix and it became popular among masses with the Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6 which too featured similar 18.5:9 display with curved edges. As even LG launched the LG Q6 with similar 18:9 aspect ratio display under mid-tier segment so now Samsung is planning to introduce the Infinity display with upcoming A-series and finally we can expect the same with Xiaomi so that it can give tough competition to the Tier-1 brands.
